In striving to boost awareness of eyecare problems and preventable blindness issues worldwide, we recently hosted the second blindfold lunch aimed at educating students about the importance of eyecare through a variety of insightful in-school talk and, of course, blindfold experiences.
The campaign’s May 9, 2013 launch ceremony took place at Hong Kong True Light Middle School. In addition to ORBIS “Sight Star” Rose Chan, those spreading the “Vision is Precious” message included ORBIS Volunteer Faculty member, Dr. Flora Lau, who shared invaluable medical knowledge on refractive errors. Nearly 100 students later joined Rose at a blind-fold lunch and subsequently vowed to take better care of their eyes once their sight was “restored”!
In 2013, pupils from 17 schools joined this campaign and over HK$340,000 was raised. Special thanks to major sponsor AXA Hong Kong, media sponsor Sunday Kiss, illustrator "Maggiemarket", and all the participating schools, parents and students.
