ORBIS “Kids Sight Friends” Christmas donor gathering was held last December. Unlike previous years, the gathering, namely “Christmas Sight Experience Workshop”, carried a special feature where grown-up and kid donors could, apart from celebrating Christmas, experience what blindness feels like and help spread ORBIS’ sight-saving message. Participants were also encouraged to cherish life even more.
On 7th December, nearly 70 “Kids Sight Friends” and their guests joined the workshop to make the festive month even more meaningful and significant. During “Blind Experience”, participants were given a stick and led through an Africa village in total darkness, by the lead of guides who were blind themselves. In an hour of darkness, they overcome fear to experience the situation of a blind person and understood the world once again using sound, touch and scent. Once back to the light, all participants were impressed, “Being blind feels so hopeless, how visually-impaired children live and survive with it?” Some children even promised they would “try their best to help blind people from now on”.
Other activities on the day included “AIDS Experience” which allowed participants to understand they should cherish life as happiness was not guaranteed. Through simple eye test conducted by “Vision Friendly” volunteers, participants also learnt to take better care of their eyes.
Every Kids Sight Friends’ young loyal monthly donor was even presented a “Certificate of Recognition” and they all promised to continue supporting our sight-saving mission!
Thank you for all participants and volunteers’ support and thank you even more for the generous donations to “Kids Sight Friends” in the past year, brightening blind kids’ lives. We hereby wish you a new year of 2014 filled with love, joy and good health!
P.S. To join our future meaningful activities and share the happiness of helping the needy, become an ORBIS “Kids Sight Friend” now!
